Vaduz - Liechtenstein - 2007

So we move on to the 2nd away trip of the Euro 2008 qualifiers in Liechtenstein. Due to Liechtenstein having no airport, very few hotels and bugger all info about it on Google, we decided it would be safer for us to stay in a nearby town in Germany. The town we opted for was Friedrichshafen, which luckily for us had an airport, a few hotels but basically bugger all else.
It seemed to be the
Norn Iron equivalent of Castlerock.... A glorified German retirement
village, which could only boast inventing the Zeppelin. Hardly anything to be
proud of (Hindenburg disaster
anyone?).
The
only public house that we seemed to of visited during the whole trip was a quaint
little spot called Pier 40.
To be honest there is very little we can say regarding this trip. To break the monotony we ended up getting pished in Pier 40 for the majority of the visit with the exception of match day which was a welcome break out of Friedrichshafen. The lads from the Scottish NISC organised local buses to ferry the troops from Friedrichshafen to the game, with a wee stop off at a cracking little town on the way, Feldkirk.
A great couple of hours was spent here with other GAWA soldiers happily drinking before the final leg of the bus trip onto the game in Vaduz in Liechtenstein. The stadium was brilliant for the size of the wee country and the match was fantastic also, with the GAWA outnumbering the home fans 2 to 1 easily. This was the first away victory for any of the lads in the Buckfast Loyal but we're sure it certainly wont be the last.
The next day back in
the newly dubbed ‘Hellrichshafen’
seemed like many other post match mornings, busting head and a raw throat. We
were going to be here for another 2 days before the flight back home so we
thought we would make the most of it and go sightseeing. After what felt like a
15 mile hike round the town we were drawn back to the only attraction we could
find................... Pier 40.
The
following day a few of the lads took a booze cruise over to a neighboring town
and had a great time.
Time to fly home thankfully as most of us were drank out and fed-up in Friedrichshafen, but all in all it was a great trip for the Buckfast loyal with an even better result. Qualifying for the 2008 finals started to look a real possibility.
